SmartPower GT Customs Bond Pack
Your gas turbine package is on the water, and the moment it reaches port the customs clock starts. HS codes, bond values, temporary import rules and release documents decide whether it moves straight to site or sits in a bonded yard while paperwork is argued over.
If the customs pack is not ready, your equipment can be stranded at port for weeks, storage and demurrage costs mount and your installation crew stands idle. A wrong HS code or an expired bond can also lead to penalties and delay that ripple through your whole commissioning schedule.
USP&E Makes Customs Part of Your Delivery
We know a turbine at port is not a turbine on its foundation. Since 2002 USP&E has built 150+ power stations and supplied about 25 000 MW across 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries. Our 400+ engineers and project managers plan cross-border moves of power equipment as part of every project. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Treat Customs Bond Packs as Part of Delivery
Prepare the customs pack before shipment: correct HS codes for each major item, commercial invoices, packing lists with serial numbers, certificates of origin and any import permits. Agree classification with your customs agent early, because turbines, generators, spares and tooling may fall under different codes with different duties.
If equipment enters under temporary import or bond, for example for bridge power or re-export, understand the bond value, its duration and the conditions for release. Track the bond clock from the day of entry, so equipment is re-exported or converted to permanent import before deadlines pass.
Check whether your project qualifies for duty exemptions or special regimes, such as those for energy or mining projects, and apply in advance.
Structure Customs Lanes for Frame 6B Fleets
If you are moving more than one remanufactured GE Frame 6B, or regular spares shipments, set up a structured customs lane: standard classifications, template documents, an agreed customs agent and clear release procedures. Repeating a proven pack saves days on every shipment.
Natural gas engines/stations and used/new gas turbines may be classified differently, and containerised units often clear faster. Comparing options on customs treatment as well as performance can shorten your programme.
Keep serial numbers consistent across every document. Mismatches between invoices, packing lists and nameplates are a common reason for holds at inspection.
Build FX-45 Readiness Into Today’s Customs Design
If your site may later receive AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators or gas turbines for compute packages, the customs lane you build now becomes a strategic asset. Document classifications and exemptions so future shipments follow the same path.
Link customs release to the last mile. A cleared package still needs escorts, permits and a crane window, so your customs agent, haulier and site team should share one move clock and one contact list, and every release document should be ready before the vessel berths rather than chased afterwards.
The planning reference for later blocks is modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, for 50 Hz and 60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028. USP&E links spares, bonds and last-mile release to the move clock and into hyperscale EPC/O&M or plant O&M, so your gas turbine generators and spares clear port when your site is ready.
USP&E Offices Serving Power Logistics Buyers
Southern Africa is home base. USP&E’s Executive HQ in Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) owns engineering, procurement and project controls for your GT spares and logistics programme, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) backs it with design and commissioning support.
Equipment and finance for rotating spares, hot-section kits and containerised equipment draw on the wider network: London (162-168 Regent Street) supports structuring and finance, Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) link you to US supply and engineering, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) covers China sourcing and manufacturing.
For a turbine move through customs, that means Johannesburg logistics engineers who prepare your clearance pack with local agents, while Wuxi coordinates export documents for China-made modules. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. USP&E has guided projects in 85+ countries, with 35+ completed utility-scale projects and 18 live projects in 11 countries, and is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
USP&E Track Record for Power Logistics
You want proof that USP&E can move heavy power equipment across borders. These projects show the team’s record.
- USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania.
- MAN redeployment, Iraq: USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer facing 12 to 18 month lead times for new engines. Read the case study.
- NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.
HowTo: Build the equipment and delivery path
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share your equipment list, origin and destination under NDA. 2. Get a customs pack, bond plan and move clock with EPC and O&M scope. 3. Clear, move, install and commission with logistics owned by one team.
- Map package identity, HS codes, bond values, clearance windows, and which roles own the release clock after port arrival.
- Compare remanufactured GE Frame 6B, verified used/new gas turbines, and natural gas engines/stations against customs and crane needs.
- Review equipment at the central inventory hub and request records, inspection findings, controls status, and logistics dimensions.
- Extend logistics design for modular FX-45 OCGT 45MW / CCGT 108MW 2×1, 50/60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028.
- Freeze HS justifications, attach commercial evidence, link bonds and release windows, and rehearse landing with named leads.
- Complete training, SLA clocks, and logistics rehearsals before declaring the customs bond path ready.

FAQ: SmartPower GT Customs Bond Pack
Why are customs bond packs part of turbine delivery?
USP&E treats customs packs as part of delivery because HS codes, bond values and release documents decide whether equipment moves straight to site or waits in a bonded yard. A missing or wrong document can strand your turbine for weeks and add storage costs.
How are HS codes chosen for gas turbine shipments?
USP&E agrees HS classifications with your customs agent before shipment, because turbines, generators, spares and tooling may fall under different codes with different duties. Consistent classification across documents avoids holds, reclassification disputes and unexpected duty at the port of entry.
What is a customs bond clock for temporary imports?
USP&E tracks the bond clock from the day equipment enters under temporary import, recording its value, duration and release conditions. Equipment must be re-exported or converted to permanent import before deadlines pass, or penalties and forfeiture risks apply to your project.
Which USP&E offices support power equipment logistics?
USP&E supports logistics from its Executive HQ in Johannesburg and from Cape Town, where engineering and project controls teams plan moves. London handles finance and contracts, Colorado Springs and Knoxville coordinate US equipment, and Wuxi supports export documents for China-made modules.
Has USP&E delivered cross-border equipment moves before?
USP&E moved a stranded 32 MW MAN plant, plus two surplus MAN generators, across four countries to an industrial buyer in Iraq. USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania.
Is USP&E a broker for logistics services?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that plans customs and logistics, manages transport and lifts, installs and commissions the equipment and operates the plant, so one accountable team answers for your delivery from port to power.
How fast can USP&E respond to a customs planning request?
USP&E can begin as soon as you share your equipment list, origin and destination. Engineers review classifications, permits and bond needs first with local agents, so timing depends mainly on how complete your documents are and on the customs regime that applies in your country.
Can power projects get customs duty exemptions?
USP&E checks whether your project qualifies for duty exemptions or special regimes, which some countries offer for energy, mining or investment projects. Applications usually need to be made before shipment, so early planning can significantly reduce costs and clearance time at the port.
Clear Port the Day Your Turbine Arrives
Prepare your customs pack early and your equipment clears port quickly, your crews stay busy and your schedule holds. Leave it late and you pay for storage, penalties and idle time. USP&E will help you move power equipment across borders without surprises.
