SmartPower GT Dangerous Goods Pack
Your gas turbine shipment is not just steel. Batteries, compressed gas cylinders, fire suppression bottles, lube oils, solvents and cleaning chemicals often travel with it, and each one can be classed as dangerous goods. Get your paperwork or packing wrong and the shipment can be refused, held at port or fined.
A single rejected crate can hold up a whole outage, because the turbine cannot start without its batteries or fire system. Worse, poorly packed hazardous items are a real safety risk to everyone who handles them.
USP&E Helps You Ship GT Dangerous Goods Safely
We know dangerous goods rules feel like a specialist corner of logistics, until a crate is refused at the gate. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers identify, classify, pack and document hazardous items in gas turbine shipments so they move safely and arrive on time. Our systems are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified, and every deal runs under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Most problems come from items nobody thought of as hazardous: a battery inside a control panel, a cylinder in a fire skid or a can of solvent in a tool kit. Finding them early is most of the work.
List Every Hazardous Item in the Shipment
Go through your packing list with the supplier and your site team and flag every item that may be hazardous: batteries of all types, compressed gas and suppression cylinders, oils and greases, solvents, paints, adhesives and cleaning chemicals.
Look inside your equipment as well as at loose items. Control panels, UPS units, fire skids and tool kits often contain batteries, cylinders or chemicals that must be declared.
Get the safety data sheet for every item you flag. Without it, nobody can classify the item correctly.
Classify, Pack and Label by Mode
Use the safety data sheet and a trained dangerous goods specialist to classify each item for each transport mode you will use. Air, sea and road rules differ, and an item that travels easily by sea may be restricted or forbidden by air.
Pack, mark and label each item you ship to the rules for its class and mode. Keep incompatible classes apart, and make sure documents match what is actually in each crate.
Book carriers and routes that accept the classes you are shipping. Some carriers, ports and airports limit certain classes, and finding out late can cost you days.
Keep Hazardous Items Off the Critical Path
Where you can, source hazardous consumables such as oils, solvents and some gases near the site instead of shipping them with the turbine. Your critical shipment then moves faster and with less paperwork.
File your dangerous goods records with the shipment pack so customs, carriers and the receiving site see the same information. Brief your site team on what is arriving and how it must be stored.
The same rules apply to every gas turbine move. Your gas turbine generators, a remanufactured GE Frame 6B and verified used/new gas turbines all travel with batteries and suppression systems, as do natural gas engines/stations, and fleets of AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute moving to hyperscale EPC/O&M sites, including the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA, need dangerous goods packs planned from the first packing list.

FAQ: SmartPower GT Dangerous Goods Pack
Which gas turbine shipment items count as dangerous goods?
USP&E commonly flags batteries, compressed gas and fire suppression cylinders, lube oils, greases, solvents, paints, adhesives and cleaning chemicals. You also check inside control panels, UPS units, fire skids and tool kits, where hazardous items are often hidden from the packing list.
Why do safety data sheets matter?
USP&E needs a safety data sheet for every flagged item, because classification depends on it. Your dangerous goods specialist cannot pack, label or document an item correctly without one. Missing sheets are a common reason for shipments being held at port.
Do dangerous goods rules differ by transport mode?
USP&E plans each item for every mode it will travel, because air, sea and road rules differ. An item that ships easily by sea may be restricted or forbidden by air. Your urgent airfreight plans can fail if this is checked too late.
Can hazardous items be sourced locally instead?
USP&E often recommends sourcing oils, solvents and some gases near the site rather than shipping them with the turbine. Your critical shipment then moves faster with less paperwork. Batteries and suppression systems built into equipment usually still need to travel with it.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support power logistics?
USP&E runs power logistics from Johannesburg and Cape Town, close to African ports and sites. London structures contracts and finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville coordinate US shipments, and Wuxi supports China manufacturing and export. All offices work from one shared project file.
Has USP&E delivered logistics on projects like this?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. Public case studies also cover NEOM, where USP&E supplied zero-hour gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface. You can read each case study yourself.
Is USP&E a broker for logistics services?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that ships, installs and operates power plants with its own engineers and project managers, so the team planning your dangerous goods also receives the equipment on site.
How fast can USP&E respond on a dangerous goods plan?
USP&E can start reviewing your packing lists, safety data sheets and routes as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag undeclared items and mode restrictions first, then issue the register, with timing set by data quality and shipping dates.
Get Every Crate Through the Gate
Get dangerous goods right and your shipment moves safely and arrives on time. Get it wrong and the first sign is a refused crate, a port hold or a site that cannot start the turbine. USP&E will help you list, pack and ship with confidence.
