If nobody tracks them in one place, items go missing in plain sight. A crate sits in a port for weeks because a document was wrong, a critical part is discovered missing on the day of the lift, and the installation crew waits at your cost. On a remote project, one lost box can delay first fire by more than the whole sea voyage.
USP&E Helps You Track GT Shipments From Factory to Site
We know that on a turbine project, logistics is only under control when everyone looks at the same list. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers track packages, crates and documents so gas turbine generators and their loose parts arrive complete, cleared and ready to install. Our systems are ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified, and every deal runs under FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Shipment tracking is not about software for its own sake. It is about one register, clear milestones, linked documents and people who keep it current.
Build One Shipment Register
Start with one register covering every package, crate, drum and loose item you ship, built from the supplier’s packing lists. Give each line a unique number, a description, the weight and dimensions, and the system it belongs to. Every party, from the factory to the site, should use the same numbers.
Link each line to your documents: packing list, commercial invoice, bill of lading or airway bill, certificates of origin, dangerous goods declarations and customs entries. When a document is missing or wrong, the register should show it before the item reaches the port.
Mark your critical items. Main packages, generators, transformers and the loose parts needed for the first lifts deserve extra attention, because their delay holds up everything else.
Set Milestones and Update Them Reliably
Set milestones for each line in your register: ready at works, inspected, collected, loaded on vessel or aircraft, arrived at port, cleared, delivered to site and received. Each milestone should have a planned date and an actual date.
Agree who updates each of your milestones and how often. The supplier updates works milestones, the freight forwarder updates transport and customs, and the site updates receipt. A register that only one person updates once a month is a history book, not a tracking tool.
Set alerts so you see late milestones and missing documents. A short weekly exception list, showing only what is late or at risk, is more useful to your project team than a long report that nobody reads.
Receive, Check and Close Every Line
Close each line only when your item is received and checked on site. Check the condition, count the contents against the packing list, photograph damage and record any shortage straight away. Claims and replacement orders depend on quick, clear evidence.
Hand your completed register into the CMMS and your spares store, so loose parts and spares are found when maintenance needs them rather than lost in a container.
The same discipline supports much bigger programmes. Under hyperscale EPC/O&M, shipments of AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute are tracked line by line, and New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA is planned as repeatable block shipments. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B, verified used/new gas turbines and natural gas engines/stations move the same way.
USP&E Offices Serving Power Logistics Buyers
Southern Africa is home base. USP&E’s Executive HQ in Johannesburg (22 Kildoon Rd, Bryanston) owns engineering, procurement and project controls for your GT spares and logistics programme, and Cape Town (31 Brickfield Road, Woodstock) backs it with design and commissioning support.
Equipment and finance for rotating spares, hot-section kits and containerised equipment draw on the wider network: London (162-168 Regent Street) supports structuring and finance, Colorado Springs (1755 Telstar Dr, Suite 300) and Knoxville (800 S Gay St, Suite 700) link you to US supply and engineering, and Wuxi, China (No. 1, Ningzhou Road, Wuxi) covers China sourcing and manufacturing.
For turbine shipment tracking, Johannesburg and Cape Town logistics teams can build your register from packing lists, follow port clearance with forwarders and confirm receipt line by line on site. Regions served: USA | AFRICA | UK | UAE | CHINA. Across 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, USP&E is ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified.
Proof from Recent Power Logistics Projects
You want proof that USP&E has moved and delivered multi-package power projects across borders. These projects show that record.
- USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania.
- NEOM, Saudi Arabia: USP&E supplied three zero-hour Siemens SGT-400 gas turbines as the single technical and commercial interface, and the client reported savings of over $10 million. Read the case study.
- Mining O&M recovery, Mali: USP&E took over a 100+ MW plant of 15 Cat CM32 engines left in critical condition, restored availability to about 95% and cut maintenance and repair cost per engine by 66%. Read the case study.
HowTo: Track GT Shipments From Factory to Site
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share packing lists, freight bookings and site schedules under NDA. 2. Receive a shipment register with milestones and document checks. 3. Track, receive and close every line, then hand it into accountable O&M.
- Build one shipment register for every package, crate and loose item.
- Set milestones for each item: ready at works, collected, loaded, cleared, delivered and received.
- Link each item to its documents, such as packing lists, bills of lading and customs papers.
- Agree who updates each milestone and how often.
- Set alerts for late milestones and missing documents.
- Close each line only when the item is received and checked on site.

FAQ: SmartPower GT Shipment Tracking Pack
Why does a gas turbine shipment need a single register?
USP&E uses one register because a turbine travels as many separate items on different trucks, ships and containers. Without one shared list, items and documents go missing in plain sight. A single register lets every party see the same status at the same time.
Which documents should be linked to each shipment line?
USP&E links packing lists, commercial invoices, bills of lading or airway bills, certificates of origin, dangerous goods declarations and customs entries to each line. When a document is missing or wrong, you see it before the item reaches the port, not after.
Who should update shipment milestones?
USP&E assigns each milestone to the party closest to it. The supplier updates works milestones, the freight forwarder updates transport and customs, and the site updates receipt. Regular updates turn your register into a live tracking tool rather than a monthly history.
What should happen when an item arrives on site?
USP&E checks condition, counts contents against the packing list, photographs damage and records shortages straight away. Each line closes only after that check. Quick evidence supports your insurance claims and replacement orders, which protects your installation schedule and your budget.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support power logistics?
USP&E supports your power logistics from Johannesburg and Cape Town, where teams handle African ports, forwarders, customs agents and site receipt. London covers contracts, insurance and finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville support US shipments, and Wuxi follows up cargo leaving China.
Has USP&E delivered multi-package power projects before?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. The public MAN redeployment case study shows USP&E moving a stranded engine plant across four countries to an industrial buyer. You can read it before you appoint anyone.
Is USP&E a broker for logistics?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E plans, ships, installs and maintains power plants with its own people, so the team that tracks your shipments is the same team that receives your items, installs them and answers for your installation schedule.
How fast can USP&E respond to a tracking request?
USP&E can start building a register from your packing lists and freight bookings as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag missing documents and critical items at risk first, so you can act before cargo stalls in a port.
Know Where Every Crate Is
Track every line and your turbine arrives complete, cleared and ready for the first lift. Lose sight of one crate and installation waits while a port or a container holds the part you need. USP&E will help you track, receive and close with confidence.
